Location scouting: LUCY’s BAR, LOWER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN

2013-10-18 19.22.28

The real-life Lucy’s Bar, Manhattan.

Chris:

Lucy’s is an important spot in Alsop. It’ll come back again and again if we get to continue the series. It’s one of those ageless NYC dive bars that’s still hanging on, still run by Lucy, her grand daughter bartends on weekends, and nothing has been cleaned since 1989. This is a Thomas Alsop joint. If you were hanging in NYC trying to have an Alsop sighting, this would be the first place to look.

Palle:

We went in and shot a few candid shots one night while I was in New York, Chris playing the tour guide. As an artist, you’re alway looking for those iconic elements that make a place recognizable. Here it was the reddish light in the place, the pool tables and the vertical neon lamps along the walls.
